Not this week! In the interests of getting over a cold and not infecting others I'll just do my own thing for a few days. Have fun though!! I'm sure you'll manage to find another wheel to suck!!

Andrew you seem to know a lot about this stuff. Re shaving and lazer, that is old hat, genetic manipulation is the way to go. Just visit Dr M on the island and he can give you a little shot and bang no more shaving. While you are at it he can give you a second set of legs if you want or wings. Mmm wings may not be UCI legal if the profiles are wrong so make sure you check that our with the UCI before you get the shot.

It was FREEZING! Enjoyable, but I was definitely suffering in the cold - just couldn't get my blood moving, which meant I spent the majority of the ride in recovery / E1 and strangely fatigued at the same time. Started to feel a bit better once the sun came out though.

We had a good turnout - 11 of us altogether. Great group and v enjoyable ride. I'm definitely keen for more at that hour, although am certainly looking forward to the real end of Winter.

Great ride and a good bunch. After a brief cafe stop Andrew, Eric, Paddy and I went and helped a couple of the Valkyries do an ITT test and a Stromlo test. Leonie shaved 2min off her Stromlo time :). Then it was back to the cafe again.

That was strange for me - I was very slow, and very tired, like I had a bad sickness. But I was not sick. And I was not bonking. I felt like death; Strange. 100 kms like that. :(

And my performance was a lot worse than usual, compared to everyone else.

Any ideas on what this is?

I seem to recall being told by a coach that there is no point training when the weather is that cold - something about your blood being used to warm your vital organs & thus not available for extremities & the result is limited if any valuable training benefit. Perhaps your muscles could not warm up probably Bossie & thus the sluggish feeling...?

I definitely think the cold has something to do with it. I felt really tired, sluggish and like I was in a weird fog and just couldn't get my brain to connect with my body to actually ride my bike. So maybe it was just the cold? Or have you had a pretty big week on the bike and maybe feeling more fatigued than usual? Whatever the cause - hope you feel better!

Was it as windy when you went out as it was later in the day? That would have an effect surely?
Overtraining could do it - but if you're sticking to the program it shouldn't be as bad as you're describing. Just plain tiredness due to lack of and/or poor sleep would do it too - are there perchance young children in the house??? And although you say it wasn't bonking, what you ate before heading out may have had some impact.
A definite possibility too is that you have a low grade infection which isn't causing too many sympoms but affecting your performance - combined with any of the other factors mentioned.
In the end, I dunno - it just happens sometimes. Happily, so does the reverse - those days when you seem to be flying without any extra effort.
Remedy - maybe a day or two off the bike to make sure you're really rested before doing any more big rides?

thanks for the info, it looks like it was either the cold, or a mild sickness, or both
