I found out the other day that my saddle is broken. How long has it been broken for? Who knows. But I'm in the market for a new one. I've pretty much narrowed the options down to two. The only difference is one saddle has carbon rails, the other doesn't. Does anyone ride a saddle with carbon rails, and if so, is there any difference apart from a few grams? Well a difference that warrants $40?

I would vote metal rails anyway. There is such a thing as too much carbon.

I take it you've tried both the saddles to make sure they're they right shape for you??

Nope, I live on the edge! Or I'm just not very bright.

It's the same brand and the same-ish design as my current one. Same and same-ish are equal aren't they?

Since your last saddle actually cracked in the middle, i'd probably be leaving the carbon rails alone (and laying off the Krispy Kremes)

Zang! I don't know whether to give you + or - rep, Jamie!

Hoops I have a Fizik Arione wing flex that I can't stand if you are interested. I only had it a couple of months (2 at the most) before I relented and got a more comfortable saddle. $50 and you can try before you buy. It is black with a blue strip down the middle.

I'd take the offer and give the Arione shape a try before you buy a new one. The Pave will be a different shape. The way i think it works with Fizik, there are four saddle shapes: Pave, Alinate, Arione, Antares. The shape will determine how comfy it is for you, so that's the most important thing to get right. All the other letters and numbers are just tweaks on the shape design - carbon, padding etc. So I'd try Chris's Arione even if you still want a fancy new one.

Hoops I am happy for you to just give it a go for a while. Saddles are black magic. They either work or they don't and you need to sit on them for a while before you know.

And the residue left by Chris is sure to have died off by now.

How's your forum rep going after today, Jamie?

Okay, I'll listen to experience and try the Arione shaped saddle if I could Chris.

If anyone wants a free saddle, I have a unused Selle San Marco Ponza LUX Road saddle you can have. I tried it at the bike shop and swapped it straight away. The bike shop didn't want it but if someone wants to give it a go let me know... :)

If your saddle is still up for grabs Graeme I'll be happy to take it off your hands, or at least give it a go. ive had pretty bad luck with saddles and I need to try a new one.

I've just swapped my Brooks 'Swift' for a Selle San Marco 'Regal' Ti and shaved 350g off the weight of Dixie. Not sure if the tradeoff is worth it though - the Selle is hard as a rock!
