If anyone's interested in getting a V02 done, here's your chance!

Hot on the heels of me finally getting out information from the research projects undertaken in 2008 I am recruiting to another probiotic study being run by the AIS.

In a nutshell, this new study follows on from the results of these earlier studies.

It involves taking a probiotic sachet (powder) in a drink of YOUR choice (not alcohol!) from May to September 2010 and filling in the daily training and illness log. We are trialling a sachet rather than a capsule to examine whether this form of administration has a better effect on upper respiratory tract illness. The training and illness log is also now online so you just have to log in rather than continually email it to us (we are modernising..slowly!).

Yes, there is blood, saliva and faecal sampling but it is entirely voluntary. Our main interest is in the training and illness log and getting the required number of people for the study.

We are aiming to recruit 450 physically active male and females (in equal numbers). So, if you are interested it would be great if you could bring 2 friends to participate with you! (shameless I know, sorry).

Thankfully, there has been a slight relaxing of the yoghurt rule. While most of them are still restricted there are a few brands you can eat (Greek, traditional, Fruche, Yoplait Miam, Bulla Gourmet and Thick and Fruity and Gippsland Twist).

There is also no compulsory VO2 testing this time (unless you want to do it). We are offering lectures again but given most of you have done them I am happy for you to suggest what we can provide you in return for participating (not money!!).

Rather than put more detail and make this email an essay there is more information at http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/sssm/physiology/research/probiotic_study

If you have any questions/comments/thoughts please contact me and if you are happy to participate again please let me know.
Cheers
Nic
